The brook sound like murmuring merrily, but somehow I feel sad with the water streaming down the beautiful valley..

The sight of the clear weater of the beautiful valley somehow makes me sad and tantalizing in spite of my being delighted at its beauty.
Why? Too pessimistic? The extreme beauty brings rather sadness?
No. The end of the water makes me sad.
I don't like to imagine its destiny.
As the ancient Greek philosopher Thales (640-546 B.C.) said, ``The water is the source of everything,'' it is getting more and more important in line parallel with the development of civilization and industrialization, which has brought great problems to the water.
Some experts say, ``The 21st century would become an era of the water crisis.
'' Maybe, the old saying ``one spends money as if it were water'' would become untrue soon, whereas the ancient Chinese maxim,
``The politics is nothing but to govern water and hill,'' would come back soon.
Prof. Kwon Sook-pyo, head of the Environmental Research Institute of Yonsei University, Seoul, says, ``We are proud of our beautiful country, called `Kumsu Kangsan' (lit. [beautiful] rivers and mountains which is like silk embroidaries) from the ancient time.

We must preserve our underground water, the treasure of our land, protect it from pollution and hand the natural water over to our posterity, so that we might not become a shameful father.
We should make every effort to do so.
We often blame others for these problems caused by pollution.
No, you shouldn't. We should keep in mind that it is my own fault, not others.

Too dry story? Then, let me introduce a fable related to water as follows:

< A scorpion and a frog >

scorpion

Long, long time ago, on a hot summer day, a scorpion was tantalizing to cross a stream facing her.
She was at a loss what to do because she didn't know how to swim and how to cross it.
Anyway, she was seeking a way to cross it safely, when she saw a frog coming toward her.
Closing him, she said, ``Hi, Mr. Frog. Would you do me a favor to ferry me over the stream on your back?''
Fearing that she might shoot him with her poison, he stepped back and back, saying,
``You're joking. I am not so stupid to give you a chance to poison me to death.''
But she said, ``You are really a fool! If I shoot down you,
I would also be drowned together with you. Why will I shoot you then?''

Considering she might be right, the frog decided to help her cross the stream.
When they reached the middle of the stream with her on his back, where it was very easy for him to swim, thanks to its slow flow, the scorpion suddenly surprised him with her poison abruptly.
The frog cried out , ``Auch! You did promise not to shoot me, but why have you just shot me?''
frog The scorpion said, ``My goodness. Sorry I dind't mean it.
It was a habit with me to shoot. I am really sorry.''
So both of them drifted with the current and ended up with death.
